“As clear as a mountain creek.”
That is how Truman Capote wanted his writing to be. It is a guiding spirit for all that we do. In the case of JP Landman, we were commissioned by the publishers Jacana to take a pile of the famous South African analyst’s papers, theses and talks and turn them into a clear, compelling book. How could we help people see beyond the drama of the day’s headlines to what JP calls The Long View? Here are a few pages from the resulting book – a combination of visuals, text and bite-sized pieces of information.
JP Landman’s goal in writing the book is to challenge the notion that South Africa is on the verge of collapse.
For the vast majority of the population, South Africa is a much better place to live than it was twenty or thirty years ago.
People need to be reassured by the long-term trendlines, rather than panicked by the morning’s headlines.
The power of incrementalism – this is how JP Landman believes South African will make progress.
